About the RPVE

Registry of Professional Vocational Evaluators, Inc.

The Registry of Professional Vocational Evaluators (RPVE) was created to provide a credential for vocational evaluators who have demonstrated attainment of acceptable standards of education, experience, and knowledge. The intent is to aid in the promotion and quality of the vocational evaluation profession.

Professional Vocational Evaluators (PVE) contribute to the promotion of informed choice in the career development process, vocational rehabilitation planning, employment outcomes and/or workplace productivity by providing vocational evaluation services to guide individuals with employment or career barriers. The credential for PVE is evaluated on the basis of degree attainment and work experience in relevant domains.

A Little History…

From 1983 to 2008, the Commission on Certification on Work Adjustment and Vocational Evaluation (CCWAVES) was the credentialing body that provided vocational evaluators to obtain the credential of Certified Vocational Evaluator (CVE). When CCWAVES suspended in September 2008, the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) took over the maintenance and renewal of current CVEs. However, the suspension of CCWAVES resulted in a gap that prevents new vocational evaluators from obtaining a professional credential that validates their knowledge and training.

To address this gap, in May 2009, the leadership of Vocational Evaluation and Career Assessment Professionals (VECAP) and Vocational Evaluation and Work Adjustment Association (VEWAA) commissioned a nine (9)-member task force to explore options for an additional credential. This new credential would provide a means for new evaluators to obtain professional credentialing in that becoming a CVE is no longer an option. The result of this task force’s efforts is this new credential named Professional Vocational Evaluator (PVE).
